If you are a British national abroad and need urgent consular assistance outside office hours, contact the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) 24-hour emergency line:

This line is available around the clock, every day of the year. Consular staff can assist with emergencies including lost or stolen passports, arrest, serious illness, death of a family member abroad, or civil emergencies such as natural disasters or political unrest.

For non-emergency enquiries, you can contact the FCDO during standard UK office hours or use the online contact form on GOV.UK. You can also find travel advice for every country on the FCDO travel advice pages, which include entry requirements, safety information, and local laws you should be aware of.

Before travelling, consider registering with the FCDO so they can contact you in an emergency. While this is no longer done through the old LOCATE system, keeping your passport details and travel plans up to date on GOV.UK can help consular staff assist you more quickly if needed.
